Man arrested after his mother is stabbed, possibly with a sword, in Mid-Wilshire
A man was stabbed at a parking lot near Los Angeles International Airport after his mother was knocked to the ground and the door to her car was kicked in, authorities said.
The suspect left the parking lot, drove to the airport and told airport officials he was being held for another person, according to police.
The suspect was detained and a woman was rushed to an area hospital, authorities said. Her condition was not immediately known.
Mid-Wilshire residents say the man left the parking lot of an apartment complex and went to a vehicle parked outside the complex.
The suspect then began attacking his mother, possibly with a sword, neighbors said.
The man’s mother was slashed in the neck, authorities said. The suspect’s mother suffered cuts on her hand and arm, possibly from trying to protect herself.
The suspect reportedly stabbed the man with a sword as his mother fought back, according to neighbors.
The suspect was detained and questioned at LAX about the incident when he was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, according to police.
Police say the suspect is a 30-year-old male from Los Angeles County. He was booked for attempted murder, with an initial court appearance scheduled for July 11.
Police are not releasing his name.
Neighbors say the suspect’s father lived with them and they knew him. The man’s father told them he is on vacation in Hawaii but will return to be with his family in Los Angeles, according to neighbors.
Witnesses reported seeing the suspect drive away from the parking lot in a white Ford Expedition with Arizona plates and a sunroof.
Detectives are searching for witnesses and are checking surveillance video in the area, officials said.
Police say there is no indication the suspect is connected to any other crime.
