DUI suspect on horse leads Whittier police on chase through the city
WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) — A man taken to the hospital after being hit by a vehicle is now under arrest.
Wilmington Police say 22-year-old Jason Sowers was struck while riding his horse in the 700 block of East 7th Street around 12:15 a.m. Saturday along with his horse causing him to fall.
Sowers was transported to the hospital where he was treated for his injuries. He will be booked later today.
In addition to Sowers’ charges, a passenger on Sower’s motorcycle has been arrested for DUI and reckless driving.

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) — A man shot by police after an officer-involved shooting has been arrested in Wilmington.
WPD say 22-year-old Joshua Mims was shot by police on a downtown Wilmington street late Friday night after he got out of the car his family was in and tried to run away on foot.
They say Mims was shot just after midnight as he ran from police, hitting a horse. Mims is said to have been hit by at least one round from the bullet, which hit another officer in the leg, and the other two officers on the scene were injured from the impact.
Mims was taken to a local hospital where he was treated and his condition is stabilized.
Mims has been arrested and charged with resisting and evading arrest, resisting officer with violence and reckless driving.
Police say Mims may have had a warrant out for his arrest, and they are continuing to investigate.
Wilmington police were called to the 700 block of East 10th Street in reference to a domestic disturbance involving a man who tried to run from police.
According to a report, the woman said her husband took their two children out of their home earlier in the evening and they have not returned. She says her children’s father was arguing with her husband over which car to drive when a police car arrived on the scene and told the man to get into the police car.
Witnesses say a man drove off with a police car chasing him on the highway.
