In an official move to ensure the state meets its goal of becoming carbon-free by 2045, California has signed a joint statement of intent with California Governor Gavin Newsom to develop a plan for California to transition from a business-as-usual carbon emissions path to a pathway that limits carbon emissions by 2045.

The California Air Resources Board (ARB) said Thursday that it had signed a joint announcement of intent with Governor Gavin Newsom, announcing a plan to replace California’s current reliance on fossil fuels sources with renewable energy within a 15-year time period.

The plan, set to be formally released in January, will allow the state to reduce carbon dioxide emissions to zero by 2045, rather than the current date that is set for the state to become carbon-neutral.
