In the seventh inning Monday night, Marwin Gonzalez hit a grand slam home run against David Robertson, a move that ended the 10-game losing streak for the Yankees at the time. The Astros won in extra innings, 3-2, to give them the series and a 1-0 lead.

After losing 13 out of 13 games at home, the Yankees were a perfect 8-0 against the Astros in Houston and the two clubs combined for 20 runs against them in the series. It was the first time in franchise history a team lost a series by three games in two separate opportunities. The Yankees were a perfect 6-0 in the first two games, but the Astros rallied to win both games 9-1.

In the first game, the Astros held a 2-0 lead, a strikeout. The Yankees tied the game in the fifth inning, but Robinson Cano homered with the bases loaded and two outs to tie the game. Cano would draw to close and Juan Uribe drove in the go-ahead run with a double play.

The series moved to Houston. A week after the Yankees lost a series at the Astrodome, the Astros won 9-6 and 4-0. While the Astros took a one-game lead in the series, they trailed 2-1 on the night of the ninth inning of the game and went into extra innings down 3-2.
