LONDON — On Tuesday, CNN pulled the plug on “This is Life with Lisa Ling,” marking the end of a 13-year TV program that had a lasting impact on American and British politics.

The move comes in one of the most drastic budgets cuts in memory, from the parent company of CNN, AT&T, and the BBC.

CNN President Jeff Zucker called the decision “inevitable”, which is the same term he used in dismissing the network’s other prime-time programming during the same period.

The news comes just three months after Zucker oversaw the end of “The Situation Room” with Wolf Blitzer, a program that had become a staple for CNN subscribers, who gave the show an average 18-percent bump after CNN began advertising that the show was ending.

In a post Monday on CNN’s “Politics Nation” site, Zucker said, “This is Life with Lisa Ling will no longer be available on CNN.com. Instead, CNN will begin re-airing our original live coverage of the RNC on CNN Newsroom Monday through Thursday, September 26th through October 4th.”

Zucker said he called CNN Chief Content Officer Jeff Manuel and “requested that all of our programming be re-priced. This programming is not in our core mission and we should not sacrifice our core value for a lower price. “
