The mayor’s wife, Toni, was on the board of Emanuel’s cousin, John “Jack” Sienkiewicz, former Chicago Public Schools CEO, who was convicted this year of tax evasion, bank fraud, and racketeering. Bonin’s campaign said he is not involved in fundraising.

As a state legislator in the 1980s, Bonin introduced a bill that would have placed the burden of child support — as well as incarceration — on fathers.

He also sponsored a measure that would have cut property taxes in the city of Chicago by a half-million dollars.

Bonin also sponsored the “Bond Law” — which makes it impossible for an ex-spouse or children to get a judgment against a former spouse or children — and the “Family Support Act” — which allows former spouses and children to sue their ex, as long as two years pass between the time of the event and the final judgment date.

Bonin also pushed legislation through the city council to create the Juvenile Court for the City of Chicago.

As City Council member, he pushed for the creation of a new job in the city government as the “city’s chief operating officer,” despite the fact he was not a lawyer and was not trained as one.

Bonin is running for mayor in 2015. He dropped out after 9 months in the race due to allegations of financial improprieties.
