The former Capitol Police officer originally charged in the Jan. 6 arrest of an intern and her father in connection with a protest in the area of the House of Representatives was found guilty of one count of obstructing an investigation after a jury trial.

WASHINGTON — The former Capitol Police officer originally charged in the Jan. 6 arrest of an intern and her father in connection with a protest in the area of the House of Representatives was found guilty of one count of obstructing an investigation after a jury trial.

Judge James Boasberg sentenced Scott L. Fisher, 42, to two years’ probation and fined him $20,000. The jury said it believed Fisher, a former Capitol police sergeant, obstructed the investigation into the Jan. 3, 2017, arrest of intern Lauren McClatchy and her father, Robert B., by lying to a detective about the alleged assault.

On Dec. 30, Fisher, who is free on bond, pleaded not guilty to one count of obstructing a federal criminal investigation. The charge would have carried up to five years in prison. A grand jury indicted Fisher on the charge in June 2017. The indictment accused Fisher of lying to a detective about an incident on the Capitol Lawn in September 2016, the day after Fisher allegedly assaulted McClatchy.
